What Are The Benefits Of Epoxy Floor Covering?

Deciding what type of flooring to add to your concrete is a big decision. While you can install traditional interior flooring, consider the benefits of epoxy floor covering.

1.      Budget-Friendly

Whether you’re just doing the floors or the entire interior design, you are sure to have a budget in mind. You’ll be pleased to least that even the most decorative epoxy flooring          is less expensive than most carpet or tile. Don’t worry, the budget won’t compromise the beauty as there are a variety of options to choose from which we discuss in benefit #8.

2.      Increased Safety

Epoxy coatings have varying levels of slip resistance, some of which remain very slippery when wet, some of which are suitable for pool decks. We’ll talk you through which option is best for your needs. If applying to a basement floor, even a simple clear coat will block the release of radon gas.

3.      Ease Of Cleaning

Raw concrete can be backbreaking to sweep and mop, but with even a basic urethane topcoat your vacuum, broom, and mop will glide over your new flooring with ease. Allergens won’t get trapped in the floor and there is no need to deep clean.

4.      Long-Lasting

The lifecycle of your flooring varies depending on the foot traffic and overall use of your space. In homes, epoxy flooring can last 15 to 30 years, but will need to be resealed every 5 years or so. In commercial environments, epoxy can last 8 to 20 years with regular resealing. Once coated, your new floor will instantly transform your space.

5.      Durability

Epoxy is seamless. It doesn’t crack or chip and is shock and scratch-resistant. It’s non-porous so it won’t wick water like uncoated concrete. You can spill chemicals, corrosive materials, and liquids that often stain, and it won’t eat through the coating—and won’t stain if the spill is cleaned up rapidly. Some coatings are UV resistant, but not all. Finally, it can withstand heavy weight, making epoxy perfect for industrial environments.

6.      Quick Installation

There is downtime with the installation of any type of flooring. Installation of epoxy will vary depending on the amount of preparation required, type of epoxy coating, and square footage. Small spaces with clear or solid color coatings dry quickly, so you can often move back in the same day. Larger spaces or spaces that require more time to prep and clean can take 1 to 3 days.

7.      Install Inside Orr Outside

When it comes to coating your concrete, most applications are referred to as “epoxy” but there are actually several different concrete flooring options—including UV coatings that can be applied to concrete exteriors or interior rooms with bright natural sunlight. However, some coatings will yellow in sunlight or aren’t suggested for outdoor use. The Dynasty Epoxy team will talk you through your options.

8.      Countless Colors And Designs

If this is your first time coating concrete you may be worried about finding an option that works with your interior design. Not to worry as you have countless colors and designs to choose from. View a few of our finished concrete floors here. Below is a quick look at the coatings you have to choose from. Once you decide which one is right for you, we’ll discuss the pattern or color.

Polyaspartic flooring—epoxy is not UV resistant and yellows over time, so we never use epoxy outdoors. For outdoor flooring or UV resistant indoor flooring we use polyaspartic coating, which is similar to polyurethane. Polyaspartics require fewer layers so they cure faster, and they are high gloss by nature. We can reduce the sheen if it’s not your style by applying an additional product. As a coating that doesn’t heat up in direct sunlight, this is our top choice for pool decks.

Endless Design Options

Sealed concrete—concrete is naturally beautiful, but it’s porous. By applying a simple epoxy base coat and urethane topcoat you can eliminate moisture seepage while maintaining the raw, rustic, and unrefined concrete finish you prefer. We will have to prep and grind first before we seal your concrete.

Flake flooring—another UV resistant and quick cure option is flake flooring.  It’s also scratch resistant, chemical resistant, slip resistant, and moisture resistant. Use indoors and outside for function and style. The “flake” finish has a texture similar to that of an orange peel which makes it slip resistant. Choose from an endless variety of colors and combinations.

Quartz flooring—for extreme durability and an antimicrobial option quartz floor systems are the way to go. At 1/8-inch-thick quartz is also rock-solid. We start with an epoxy base, then the quartz, and finish up with a topcoat most suited to your needs. Enjoy extreme durability and chemical, stain, and slip resistance. Quartz is also highly decorative and aesthetically appealing so choose from a variety of color options to elevate your concrete. Unlike our other floor coatings, quartz coatings can also be applied vertically.

Metallic flooring—sometimes this type of coating is also referred to as metallic pearl, pearl epoxy, or pearlescent floor coating. If you want to transform your concrete to create a cozy, unique, luxurious, or artistic space a metallic floor coating is the way to go. It’s a low VOC flooring option that increases durability and is slip and water resistant. An indoor-only option as it is not UV resistant. This 3-layer system begins with epoxy, a head-turning decorative coating in the middle, and urethane on top for a satin finish. No one will know it’s concrete!

Solid color flooring—our solid color floor coatings are timeless. We determine the precise base layers depending on your unique performance needs, finishing it off with an epoxy or polyaspertic topcoat. Clients often feel like their space is larger after the new coating is applied. Benefits include fast cure and drying times, zero VOCs with an epoxy topcoat, high gloss, and slip resistant.
